I bleed for "Twilight"

Sprite’s still midway through the book she told me, but Arlenni’s birthday treat for us four was to watch the movie after our Tony Roma lunch. Great!

I just don’t want to go along with the hype created by this movie. But the urge of writing a blog about “Twilight” and one more movie “August Rush” later on can never be eluded I should say. Though I prefer to read the book first just like what I did for the Potter series. But still I will go for the blog.

Twilight is a movie from Stephanie Meyer’s best selling book of the same title. A story of Isabella Swan, a teenage girl who unenthusiastically moves to a town called Forks to live with her father as her mother shifted from town to town with her new stepfather. Bella meet Edward Cullen at her new high school and was intrigued by him. Edward save her life and soon after she finds out the truth. Edward is a vampire.

Chill! Cool! Delightful! I don’t want to say “cute” or it will trash it up. Too old for those but it is actually those delightful terms. I am not familiar with Kristen Stewart, the actress doing Bella Swan, a sensitive young woman with an insatiable curiosity and romantic soul. Cedric Diggory, I mean Robert Pattinson as Edward, eyes encased in dark contact lenses, pasty skin and hair swept back like Elvis Presley, is a modern expression of vampirism. Both actors were fantastic as delightful too in this violent, sensual, rated PG-13 flick. It is a given that the movie appeals to a large group of fans of the books, mostly females as I could see groups and flanks of abaya-clad Emirati ladies going in and out of the Grand Cinema 1 talking fondly of the movie, I should say.

Yes, Bella discovers that Edward is a vampire but I don’t want to ruin the movie, full stop. Well, Twilight is widely promoted in the category that this is a teenage romance with vampires. I literally headed into the movie with a strong desire to see what all the fuss was about, as again Sprite and several Oasis Village friends are fans of the book and quite excited for the movie, but that’s another story. Anyways, I headed into the flick knowing only what you have read in the previous paragraph. I was delighted. The movie wasn’t bad - it wasn’t amazing, but it wasn’t bad. Matter of fact, it’s verging on the tip of good.

In my own opinion there are loopholes in the plot though. Ooopps, apologies. But I am sure this will be taken cared off in the sequels (?) or when I read the book. But how about those who will not be able to read the book? The hell I care, the movie is sexy . But I am a bit confused of some elements in the movie that weren’t explain fully or just left completely open and some other issues. Though my cousins like it, the special effects are extremely weak and seems directed by a director who is in love with the characters but not with the target audience. Long angle tracking shots pans focusing on ineffective scenes of nothingness don’t do any magic for an audience waiting for some things to happen. The long shots made it impossible for audience to relate to the emotions of Meyer’s characters.

For what’s it worth, fans of the book will find the movie an exciting one. Reason why Twilight is a top-grossing film since there are plenty of “human beings” out there who are like me, suckers for a good love story and although this isn’t Titanic, it does a good job of making you feel for the characters involved. A lot of the credit goes to the on screen chemistry between lead actors Stewart and Pattinson. Both do an excellent job and were well cast in the respective roles. This should jumpstart both of their careers.

I can’t say I am bleeding in anticipation for the Twilight’s sequel (New Moon?), but I “sort of” guranatee that I’ll be waiting to see it. As for now, I am recommend checking out the film as it is a good movie and it won’t disappoint you.
